200.5 / Heskin Radiophonic – Oddment Dub

The founder of Fwonk* bows out with a trio of techno-infused electronic dub. The bass is low, the beats are slow. Dial the intensity back several notches and flow with the music.

198 / Viejos Hombres de Abejón – The Library of Noise

Six years since the Viejos Hombres first landed with a blizzard of distortion, they are back. This is a soundtrack for our current dystopia. It’s the rally of the drums in the revolution, it’s the rave of the apocalypse. In short, it sounds like the sky is being torn apart.

Mixing in the original album’s swirl of ambience and noise, this new EP throws in influences ranging from My Bloody Valentine through The Orb to Fuck Buttons. It is loud and brutal, yet hypnotic and mesmerising.

196 / Heskin Radiophonic – Madrigals

Acoustic and folk instruments (or at least samples of them) weave and intertwine simple melodies and harmonies, delays build, and cavernous echoes rebound.

A departure for Heskin Radiophonic after two albums of techno music this year, this is a return to ambient music, but far more melodic than previous Fwonk* releases.

193 / Various Artists – Whispers

Over twelve months, twelve Fwonk* artists were put to the test in this experimental single-track album based on the popular children’s ‘Telephone Game’.
In their chosen month, each artist used only the last few measures of the previous month’s track as a foundation for their own interpretation on the theme. The result is a metamorphosis in sound, with often only seeds of previously recognised audio being discernible. Just like the actual game, the first and final tracks could not be further apart.

01 Katarrhaktes – The Gathering Quiet
02 Heskin Radiophonic – xuxurla
03 Anny – Chorizo Dish
04 Bachelor Machines – Unspool
05 Vasko the Pig – And Everything Coming Down
06 echosonic – Flaming June
07 3dtorus – shuffled dirt
08 Cardigan of Wasps – Goreshit Roadkill (Sakura Swarm short ver)
09 Viejos Hombres de Abejon – murmuri
10 Transitional Landscapes – Whispers
11 radjukatarretti – flustro
12 numen arcana – redshift

134 / 3dtorus: mind insert

‘Mind Insert’ was chosen as the single for the simple reason that I found it to be the catchiest track of all 11 I produced to be released as the album ‘Rain (On Your Charade)’. To me it is as well a good example for why I think the whole album to be Post Techno. It definitely is techno if you look/listen at each element solitary – but together they do not appear as Techno. Yes, I have quite a strict idea what Techno is and what it sounds like, which is mainly because I experienced it during the 90s when it still was just raw and rough loopbanging all night long. Of course this still exists, but also nowadays all possible kinds of electronic music come under this label, which I took as a reason to show my love and respect for the origins by tagging this Post Techno. I´m very grateful for the epic remix by Heskin Radiophonic. It shows the track in a completely different context/light which also works fine!
