133 / V/A: Fwonk* Classics

Taking inspiration from hundreds of years of classical music, a select cadre of Fwonk* alumni offer their interpretations and versions of the genre. Tackling Bach, Beethoven, Debussy, Ravel and Stravinsky – as well as lesser-known composers like Thomas Tallis, Pietro Masagni and Josquin de Prez – are Fwonk* artists echosonic, katarrhaktes, Eivind Fivelsdal, Heskin Radiophonic, Per Byhring, Fudgedubnofunk and Dr Nemmo.

129 / V/A: A Tribute to Kurt Cobain

In March we set a Cauldron challenge to our roster of artists, and the public to commemorate the legacy of Kurt Cobain. In the 20 years since Cobain’s passing he has inspired generations of artists across many genres. This compilation features music that covers everything from industrial electronica, to algorave to ambient drones.

In setting the challenge, we stipulated this could have been anything from a Nirvana cover to a song inspired by his lyrics. The track should have been the length of a rock song (between 2 and 6 minutes) and had to include vocals. This tribute is the result of that experiment.

122 / Stratosonics: BuzzFeed Baby

Two new songs from Fwonk*s regular shit-kickers, Stratosonics. First up is BuzzFeed Baby, an ode to the popular social website for morons, followed by a brand new version of Yeah Yeah Yeah, which first appeared on Sonic Boom Boogie back in 2011. Two slabs of in your face rock and roll, and the whole single lasts 159 seconds.

115 / Heskin Radiophonic: Tuomio

Heskin Radiophonic returns to Fwonk* for the first time since 2011 with Fwonk*s very first single release: two tracks of Damnation and Salvation. These tracks are full of reverb soaked ambient drones, crispy beats and ghostly pads.

114 / V/A: Let Steeple Bells Be Swungen

Ho ho ho and a keg of mulled wine! Fwonk* rounds off 2013 with a candy-soaked compilation LP of icy beats and frosty ambience. Best enjoyed with a crate of dodgy liqueur and several dozen mince pies.

Concept, curation, and artwork by Katarrhaktes.

107 / Katarrhaktes: Collapse

Katarrhaktes ends its series of EPs with ‘collapse’, a ten track remix album chronicling every release since 2010’s ‘MAELSTRÖM’. This LP features special remixes by Per Byhring, Heskin Radiophonic, Puppet Show, and Fudgedubnofunk from the Fwonk* netlabel alongside reworkings by Katarrhaktes and two tracks completely exclusive to this release.

104 / V/A: Fwonk* Side of the Moon

To celebrate five years of Fwonk*, and forty years of Dark Side of the Moon, our regulars got together and reproduced Pink Floyd’s classic LP.

This LP faithfully follows the original structure, but each track is warped by a different artist or group of artists. This encompasses ambient electronica, chip-tune, shoegaze, metal and idm versions of the classic originals. We even threw in some extra bonus tracks inspired by DSotM for the sheer fun of it.

All songs written and originally performed by Pink Floyd. We are making no money from the release of this EP. We do this for the sheer love of the music. If you don’t own the original Pink Floyd album, we really suggest you get a copy now, as it’s magnificent.

100.4 / Stratosonics: Astrobastards & Assholes

The Stratosonics return to Fwonk* with another EP of short, fast, rocking tunes. If you like guitars laced with fuzz and cranked to eleven, drums that play through your head and snarled vocals with puerile lyrics, this is the EP for you. This is down and dirty fun.

100.1 / V/A: FWONK*100

Welcome to FWONK*100 – our hundredth release on the good ship Fwonk*! As we settle down, to read our congratulatory letter from HRH The Queen, we give – as the first salvo in a five-album salute – this massive compilation to you.

Featuring Fwonk* regulars and old-timers such as Heskin Radiophonic, Styli, Vasko The Pig, Katarrhaktes, Fudgedubnofunk, Organic Shift Man and Nemmo this also features – at long last! – the first Fwonk* recording from Norwegian progmeister and father-to-us-all Eivind Fivelsdal.

Fwonk* would especially like to thank Katarrhaktes for the going and building that amazing sculpture and making the artwork just for lil’ ol’ us.

089 / Heskin Radiophonic: Schwarzschild Radius

Heskin Radiophonic returns to Fwonk* with four tracks of ambient, pseudo-orchestral drones based around unresolved chordal sequences. The overall effect sounds not unlike an alternative soundtrack for 2001: A Space Odyssey, this is quiet music best played loud.
